Knits of Love
In many traditions people have used words, prayers, and mantras to express a certain intention. Traditionally the words are expressed either out loud or silently and repeated over and over. The positive energy from the words is sent out into the universe for that particular energy vibration to be spread throughout the world as well as throughout each individual.
As I was knitting a hat, a thought struck me that each knit could have an intention embedded into it and therefore the knitted item would manifest energetically that specific intention.
Here is a great example: we were singing at a local kirtan (devotional chanting) and people brought food and offered it to the center altar. During the kirtan, the food sat in the middle of the room and the food was exposed to all the chants from that evening. It is believed that the energy generated from the chanting is embedded into the food. At the end of the kirtan, the people who brought the food handed it out to each participant and the food was eaten. The belief is that the energy from the mantras and chants that were sung during that evening would be taken up by the food and when the people ate the food, the energy from the chanting would be incorporated into the being of each individual through the food.
Knits of Love is based on a very similar concept. As people knit or crochet, a word, mantra, intention, or prayer is recited or said out loud and the energy from that intention will be embedded into each knit or stitch. One can just think about something such as ‘inner peace’ or ‘love’ or ‘world peace’ or ‘greater awareness of our connection to the divine’ as one is knitting or crocheting and therefore each knit is a representation of the intention or word or prayer or mantra.

We are a not for profit independent organization. Our intention is either to sell our knitted items and donate the money to charity or give our knitted items away to people who need clothes, hats, or scarves to wear.
If possible each knitted item will have the name of the knitter as well as the mantra, word, phrase, intention or prayer that was said or thought about during the knitting, and the approximate number of knits for each product.
